Sirmione needs no introduction: it is a little gem in the middle of the lower Lake Garda. The municipality is bordered by Peschiera del Garda in the south-east and Desenzano del Garda in the south-west. The lake section is bordered by Lazise and Castelnuovo del Garda to the east and Padenghe sul Garda to the north.
The historical center is located at the northern end of a long, narrow peninsula about 4 km long, which divides the southern shore of the lake into two parts, and at the same time is an island, since it is separated from the peninsula by a navigable moat that crosses only one access road — a bridge.
Sirmione still retains its medieval urban structure, with narrow, uneven streets. Beginning in the 1970s, a series of architectural works (first at the Grifone and Speranza hotels) were carried out to restore the exterior walls of the buildings to do a more ancient appearance, with exposed brick and stone. This is a restricted traffic area, you can say that it is a paradise for pedestrians.
